Frequently Asked Questions

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, or Cash

Should I tip my movers?
Tipping is always appreciated but not mandatory like in the restaurant industry and should be based on the quality of the workmanship they provide. If your movers work hard, do a good job, and you can afford to tip, it is greatly appreciated. If not, we still very much appreciate you hiring us for your move.

Do you shrink wrap and blanket wrap furniture.
Yes we shrink wrap, and/or blanket wrap most furniture. The wrap and blankets are included at no charge. Please let the crew know of any items of concern and we can take extra precautions with them.

How is the stair fee calculated and why is it charged?
The stair fee is calculated by the total number of stairs or flights of stairs involved in the move. The rate is either $4 per hour per flight (approximately 12 stairs), or $0.35 per hour per step when partial flights are involved.
So for example if you move into a home with 6 steps up to the front door then 10 steps inside the house your total stair fee would be 16 steps X $0.35 = $5.60 per hour total total added on to the bill. For a 5 hour job the total would be $28. %100 of this will go to the movers on the job that are navigating the stairways. It is a bonus for the physical toll and safety risk of moving items through stairways.

How do I properly prepare a dresser for moving?
The best way to prepare a dresser for moving is to empty it and leave the drawers in. If the dresser is not unusually large and there are not many stairs it is okay to leave some clothes in the dresser. Never leave any breakables in a dresser as it may need to be put on its side to be moved.

Do you provide box packing services?
We do not provide box packing services and it is expected that your boxes be packed and closed before the movers arrive. If you require help with box packing we recommend
vancouverinthebox.com

Do you do disassembly and reassembly?
We do disassembly and reassembly if needed. We carry standard tool sets. If you have any antique, obscure, or handmade furniture items, we recommend disassembling yourself before hand because they can be very time consuming.

How long does the average move take?
On average, a studio takes 2.5-4 hours to move, a one bedroom takes 3-5.5 hours and a 2 bedroom takes 4-6.5 hours. These times very greatly depending on access, preparation, and awkwardness of items. In the past there have been 2 bedrooms we have done in 2 hours and studios that have taken 7 hours so it varies greatly; therefore, it is very important to fill in our online estimate form with as much detail as possible.

Do you do in house estimates?
We do not do in-house estimates. A lot of companies offer "free" in house estimate but they are generally the companies doing longer jobs at a higher hourly rate so they have the margins to include a "free" estimate. In an effort to keep our hourly rates low, we do our estimates online.

Do you move pianos?
Unfortunately, we do not move pianos(but keyboards are cool).

Bed bugs?
We will not move anything with bedbugs. This is zero tolerance company policy. Our employees are trained to spot signs of bedbugs and if we find any signs of bedbugs your move will be ceased immediately.

Will I receive a confirmation notice after filling out a submission form?
If you have provided us with your email address with at least 6 days notice before your booking, you will receive an email notice 3-4 days before your move. If you have not received the confirmation please contact us.

When does my hourly rate start & finish?
The hourly rate starts when you meet our crew at your pick up location and it will finish when you are satisfied that you do not need any further assistance from the crew.

Do you include any moving supplies
We include the use of shrink wrap, tape, and up to 2 mattress bags free of charge with every move booked.

Can we make multiple stops or pick up’s with my move?
Yes. As our pricing is billed as time we spend on your job we can factor in multiple stops or pick up’s into your move. Please include this information in our online estimate so we can provide you with a more accurate quotation for your move, and plan accordingly.

Does our crew stop for lunch during the move?
This differs per job but generally our crew will eat as they go or on the drive between locations. If your job is particularly long then it will be agreed too at the discretion of the clients and crew on the day and billing will be adjusted to factor in any needed rest time on the job.

What does the travel fee cover?
Our flat rate travel fee covers the crews wages to get from our starting point in Olympic Village, Vancouver and from the final destination of your drop off back to Olympic Village. This is added onto the hours spent on the job from pick up to drop off. The idea of the flat rate travel fee is to not bill for time spent in traffic before and after the job.

Do you move in the rain or snow?

We move in all non-severe weather. In the event of snow our trucks are equipped with snow shovels and if our crew will deem it safe we will proceed with the move.
In the more likely event of rain our crew will take extra care in wrapping your items and keeping them from being exposed to rainfall.

What happens if all my items do not fit in the truck?
We base all our estimates on the contents list provided to us on our online booking form. From this list we advise on which truck would be suitable for your move. In the rare event that all items will not fit in our truck we will provide you with a list of alternatives best suited to you in order to complete the move on the day. Our goal is to complete the job in full.
